Michael Yin is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law. He wrote and edited for the North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology and served on the Holderness Moot Court Bench. Michael finds his work as a family law attorney both interesting and meaningful. His practice areas include general family law and property settlement, and he excels at research and legal writing.

"The best thing to do is to listen and understand a client's needs. I like to focus on helping clients achieve the outcome that they want. I take time to research all aspects of a case to develop the strongest arguments," says Michael.

Michael believes that family law is extremely rewarding because often, you are more than just a lawyer. In practicing family law, not only must you be able to advise clients of their rights and assess their legal situation, but you must also competently guide clients through stressful and personally taxing times.

With a detail-oriented approach, Michael provides a calm aspect in his work for clients that helps to guide his research on property settlements, including those of high net worth divorce cases. Through his experience and expertise, he is able to dive into all aspects of research in family law matters.

Michael is one of Woodruff Family Law Group's expert blog writers, and his blogs feature such topics as child custody and modification and equitable distribution. Visit our North Carolina Divorce Lawyer's blog and read more.

"I am fascinated by the complex legal matters that I write about for the North Carolina Divorce Lawyer's blog and enjoy learning more every day about new and interesting cases in family law. Writing about the law helps me in my work for people that need legal help," Michael adds.

Favorite Music
My musical tastes tend to be eclectic. One of my favorite bands is "A Tribe Called Quest," highlighted in Rolling Stone magazine as "mapping out the electrically relaxed blueprint for wave after wave of abstract alterna-rap bohemians." I guess this makes my music style bohemian!

Hobbies
I like to explore North Carolina through the lens of dining experiences. Traveling to various cities in our state can be a fun way to check out a unique restaurant or food that sounds interesting.

Michael also enjoys watching Tarheel basketball and excursions to watch the team play in Chapel Hill.

Favorite Quote
"No matter what you're going through, there's a light at the end of the tunnel." Demi Lovato

Guilty Pleasure
On weekends, I enjoy watching Reality TV – especially the obviously edited shows.

Dogs or Cats?
My dog Nelson is a pug with a personality! She gets along well with my red-haired cat Maca. They are a lot of fun and keep life interesting. Having pets is a great way to reduce stress, and Nelson and Maca help me unwind after a busy work week.
